Tetyana Mulesa, Economics and Business, UCL/Tartu: 2007- 2009

I am enrolled on the Economics and Business track and am completing my second year in Tartu University, Estonia. Needless to say that studying in the best universities in Europe considerably widens the scope of knowledge, allows us to experience the most unforgettable years of education and increases our personal profile for the job market. I am conducting my Master research on the renewable energies sector and seek to enhance the use of alternative energies in developing economies. Exploring the Estonian economy and its energy market brought me to comprehend how this could be done. I am very pleased to be part of this program and would encourage others to join. My CV.

Zachary Rothstein, Politics and Security, UCL/Krakow: 2007- 2009

I originally applied to IMESS because I was thrilled at the prospect of both living and academically specializing in Central and Eastern Europe. What I didn't realize was that I would get inspired academically by my courses at UCL SSEES and enriched culturally by my experiences in Krakow. I'm currently finishing my second year of IMESS in Krakow, where I am writing my dissertation on the effect of democratization on separatist movements in Central and Eastern Europe. IMESS has confirmed my passion for Central and Eastern Europe and Russia and has prompted me to seek future employment with an international NGO or organization that deals with this region. My CV.

Liubov Borisova , Economics and Business, UCL/Prague: 2007- 2009

IMESS offers a great opportunity to experience the life of being a student at one of the world's best universities, to meet people from all over the world and to get a great education which can open up many paths. Not for a single one day, hour or minute have I regretted the choice I have made. So far it has been a difficult but rewarding experience: full of studying, working hard, meeting great people, enjoying the few free minutes, traveling, planning the future and having a lot of fun! IMESS has given me the flexibility to choose what I want to do when I graduate. I will be able to draw upon my knowledge of Czech, as well as my advanced analytical skills and my developing knowledge of economics, politics and public policy throughout my career. My CV.

Qin Huang, Economics and Business, UCL/Budapest: 2007- 2009

The IMESS programme enabled me to develop global skills relevant to international business and entrepreneurship, as well as to study in London, one of the world's most significant financial and business centres, and in another city in the Central and Eastern Europe region. The academic standards have been demanding but I have still been able to develop some kind of business contacts in Europe. With the globalisation of the world economy, the expanding overseas investment of Chinese companies is under way, and the ever growing demand of the middle class in China remains robust, therefore I plan to continue with a career in the fields of international trade and investment. I am quite sure that the IMESS programme has prepared me well for these coming challenges. My CV.

Gabriel Okele, Politics and Security, UCL/Krakow: 2007- 2009

In joining IMESS I knew that I would be privileged to be tutored by resourceful academics from some of the best universities in the world as well as getting the exposure, experience and network to build my future career. So far, I have benefited in the area of broad training, regarding the theoretical underpinning of some major socio-political and economic problems of interest. I also have a clear idea of how to conduct an informed social science research project using qualitative and quantitative research methods. Finally, I am equipped in critical thinking and in the analysis of socio-economic and political issues. The experience from this programme will avail me a competitive edge in my intentional future career of "Political Risk Analysis". My CV.

Natalia Shilyaeva, Economics and Business, UCL/Prague: 2007- 2009

Having found this programme on the Erasmus website, I thought it could be fun. IMESS promised a challenging study programme as well as an incredible multicultural experience. I was amazed by how it satisfied my expectations. IMESS offers you more than a degree. It’s a life experience that teaches patience, flexibility and commitment. Living in a different culture and trying to understand it can never be easy, but I would never regret taking part in this programme. I am currently in Prague for my second year, writing my thesis on financial development. New people, new problems, new solutions. Well, I’m excited about where it will lead me to. I definitely encourage people to join IMESS and wish them good luck in advance! My CV.

Damjan Jovic, Politics and Security, UCL/Prague: 2007- 2009

Through the IMESS programme, I got a chance to experience the renowned education system of the United Kingdom by studying at one of its finest institutions. The programme has also been a unique opportunity for me to spend a year studying the language, culture and social system of another Eastern European state - the Czech Republic. In my opinion, having an international experience is essential for any student in the modern, globalizing world. IMESS provided me with such an experience, helped broaden my horizons and thus contributed a great deal to my personal growth. My CV.

Christopher Tung, Economics and Business, UCL/Prague: 2008- 2010

I am currently enrolled in the Economics and Business track at UCL and will be spending year 2 in Prague. In addition to IMESS being offered by a top-notch institution such as UCL, it was the international student body that attracted me. Plus, spending the second year in Prague didn't sound too bad! I am highly interested in the finance and energy industries and feel that Central and Eastern Europe will continue to be a significant force both regionally and globally. I aim to seek employment either at a bank or consulting firm in the region when I finish up my studies. My CV.

Lingbo Li, Politics and Security, UCL/Budapest: 2007- 2009

I originally applied for IMESS because I was amazed by the opportunities it offers: of comprehensive academic training; of multiple cultural acknowledgements; and most importantly (which makes IMESS stand out from other international programs), of much deeper understandings of local people in both the 'west' and the 'east'. This means a lot for a student like me, studying comparative political economy, and planning for a career in the field of development and transition. I am now finishing my second year of IMESS in Budapest, doing a dissertation on the inter-relationship between development, rule of law, and the political regime. The experience with IMESS has opened a new perspective for me to view the world and myself. My CV.

Andrei Tjutrin, Economics and Business, UCL/Helsinki: 2007- 2009

I am currently in Helsinki researching the economic effects of the liberalisation of energy markets in CEE. The education and life here is so different from that we all experienced in London. That is why the programme offers so much space for personal development - not only great academic opportunities but also a broad cultural experience. Nevertheless, in spite of all the fun you will have, the programme is also challenging academically. I lost count of how many sleepless nights I have spent in the library! Remember, the world's best universities offer the world's toughest challenges. My CV.

Cornelius Amponsah, Economics and Business, UCL/Prague: 2007- 2009

Taking part in IMESS has broadened my view on the continent of Europe and has also enabled me to study in a multi-cultural learning environment. IMESS has offered me the opportunity to study in the worlds 7th best Universty (UCL) with its cutting edge research and teaching expertise, while now, I am in Charles University in Prague - the oldest and one of the most reputed universities in Central Europe. I am currently working on a dissertation on private capital mobilisation among the transition countries. IMESS has been really challenging and exiting, particularly the linguistic side of the programme. But it has proven to be the only way to understand the area of interest. I recommend IMESS to everyone who seeks a thorough, area studies related, post-graduate programme. My CV.

Erin Saltman, Nation, History and Society, UCL/Budapest: 2007- 2009

IMESS has provided an amazing and unique Masters program that goes beyond traditional institutional structures. In the Nation & Society track, I am focused on Eastern and Central European sociopolitical structures. My first year at UCL SSEES provided me with a foundational, theoretical, and basic linguistic understanding of my region of study. My second year, in Budapest, has already challenged me to immerse myself within a new academic atmosphere and cultural environment. My dissertation concerns Hungarian youth mentalities towards the political party system. Having the opportunity to interview and interact with politically minded youths has reaffirmed my interest in my field and given invaluable depth to my research. I look forward to pursuing employment within an international organization where I can utilize my experiences and education. My CV.

Eric Seufert , Economics and Business, UCL/Tartu: 2008- 2010

The aspects of IMESS that appealed to me most when deciding where to apply to graduate school were: the access to academic and
career-oriented resources that are enjoyed by students in London; the opportunity to study economics within the context of Central and
Eastern Europe; and the sterling reputation of University College London. Even in year one, the program has exceeded my every expectation and opened my eyes to the academic approach to research that I was not exposed to in undergrad. I will spend year two in Tartu, Estonia, and cannot wait to continue my studies there. My only complaint with IMESS is that each classroom is equipped with full-sized seats, but I only ever use one edge
.
My CV.

Yulia Atarskaya, Economics and Business, UCL/Krakow: 2007- 2009

I applied to IMESS because it offered me a great chance to study in 2 different countries obtaining a double Master’s degree inclined towards economies in transition. The programme has greatly developed my research and analytical skills as well as equipped me with comprehensive knowledge of business and markets in CEE and CIS. At the moment I am in Krakow doing my research on the role of Trade Finance in speeding up the transition process. Upon graduation I am planning to pursue my career with a multinational organization (preferably a bank such as EBRD) that is active in CEE, Russia or CIS. IMESS makes me so much more competitive on the labour market. My CV.

Yi Chun Liu, Nation, History and Society, UCL/Tartu: 2007- 2009

I am currently in Tartu researching salvation thinking in Dostoevsky and Solovyov. I applied for this programme mainly because this part of the world somehow fascinates me. I hoped that by studying at UCL SSEES and Tartu I would gain different perspectives on this part of Europe and Russia. The first year in London was rather unique in terms of how I tried to cope with studies and the cultural shock to which I thought I should have been more or less immune. Regardless of the results, I’ve really enjoyed feelings of producing new ideas and ideas being challenged, and for those I’m indebted to IMESS. After IMESS, I welcome any opportunities that enable me to experience more of the local European climate and to practice analytical thinking. My CV.
