International Masters in Economy, State & Society

Europe in a global perspective
An intellectually stimulating Masters programme that combined academic rigor, international immersion, and a varied programme of study… grounded in practical and empirical study... I would recommend it to anyone with a passion for Central and Eastern Europe

How to apply

  • applications: 27 July 2018
  • scholarship applications: 22 March 2018

Minimum Admission Requirements

You need to hold (or expect to obtain) an upper second class honours degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant subject area. If your Bachelors degree is in an unrelated subject, you must demonstrate their interest in IMESS through the supplementary questionnaire.

If your first language is not English, you must provide recent evidence that your spoken and written command of the English language is adequate for the programme e.g. ‘good’ level in accordance with UCL English Language Policy.

Please complete the standard UCL graduate studies online application form and include the additional required materials, paying particular attention to the guidelines below on how to complete the IMESS Supplementary Questionnaire.

Please note that if you fail to complete the IMESS Supplementary Questionnaire, your application will be discarded.

When you apply online, please ensure that you properly upload the IMESS Supplementary Questionnaire (under ‘personal statementl’ on the online system), your degree transcript, proof of citizenship, English language certificate and IMESS scholarship application form (if appropriate). Incomplete applications will not be looked at. You do NOT need to complete an additional personal statement, as the questionnaire covers the points we are looking for.

If you are applying for the IMESS Scholarship, be sure to upload a scan of a signed scholarship application form form (including the scan of the information page of your passport) under ‘Additional document’ on the online system.

As UCL is the coordinating partner of the IMESS consortium, it is not necessary to apply to your preferred second year university as well. However, you must specify your study track, choice of second year university and language preferences for your application to be considered.

It is often the case that students applying to the IMESS Programme will not graduate (or take their English language exam) until after the application deadlines have passed. In this case, please provide your latest transcript when you apply. If your application is successful, you will be provided with an offer from UCL, conditional on graduating on time with the appropriate grade and language certificate.
